NACG (National Alliance for Children's Grief) Symposium

Helping the Helpers: Highlights from the NACG Symposium
Helping the helpers took on a new level of meaning at this year’s NACG Symposium, where over 600 grief professionals gathered in Kansas City to learn, share, and connect.
We were proud to represent Rooster & Hen, bringing both resources and education to the event. Our children’s book Moving In Forever was prominently featured among other creative and therapeutic literature developed by fellow helpers in the community. Our founder, Rebecca Wu, presented a session titled “From Page to Purpose: How Creating a Book Helps Children Make Meaning and Find Voice.” During the session, attendees explored examples of children’s literature, discussed ways to implement creative tools on a budget, and even made their very own 'zine—using just one piece of paper!
Sharing knowledge and experience was a central focus of the symposium. We networked, exchanged stories, and offered support to one another. Attendees also received goody bags filled with helpful resources. This year, Rooster & Hen Resources contributed something special—our very own creative support journals and stickers! It was incredibly rewarding to see participants using our journals to take notes during sessions. Watching our resources in action was one of the best feelings ever.
Taking the learning back and applying it to our work is essential to community-based support. We gained insights from many seasoned organizations on a wide range of topics—from how to support a school after the death of a student or staff member to integrating somatic breathwork. We’re continuing to process these takeaways and brainstorm thoughtful ways to integrate them into our own work with art and story.
