We joined the Highmark Caring Place Grief Talks Conference for a conversation on how grief ripples beyond the individual—moving through families, relationships, and entire communities. A expanded definition of what “holistic” means in the grief experience.
Together, we explored how cultural worldviews shape the ways grief is expressed and supported, and what it means to widen our understanding beyond the individual. Through storytelling and creative reflection, participants considered grief not only as a personal experience, but as something deeply relational—rooted in culture, identity, family, and connection.
One of the most meaningful parts of our time was recognizing our own place within those ripples. As helpers, caregivers, and community members, we each carry experiences of loss that influence how we show up for others. By naming this, we create more space for empathy, awareness, and care across generations.
We left encouraged by the commitment to building more inclusive, culturally responsive support while honoring that grief is never held alone, but always shared in the spaces between us.
