Named one of the “Coolest Neighborhoods in the World” by Time Out Magazine, Avondale is also home to Rooster & Hen Resources. Our cozy studio office at The Art Colony—a creative hub of silversmiths, painters, therapists, and makers—is where we dream, design learning experiences, and share the art of our community.

In partnership with Avondalia Arts Chicago, Rooster & Hen was featured in their annual show, Avondalia: In Chorus & Cohesion. To celebrate local artists and community connection, we created an interactive installation called “Grief Links.” Visitors wrote stories and phrases on paper strips, linking them together to show how our individual narratives weave into a larger community story.

Guests joined in by sharing their own stories—grief-y, funny, or otherwise—adding their links to the growing chain. Families explored our open studio, children made art, and parents paused to read Moving In Forever. Through artmaking and storytelling, we opened space for conversations about grief, healing, and the beauty of shared emotion all the while making the whole topic more approachable.

While other artists showcased their own work, we highlighted creations made by children and families at our workshops—reminding us all that there is deep beauty in the healing journey.
